When to Use This Skill
Use this skill when the user requests:
- •"Write a cover letter for this job"
- •"Draft a letter explaining why I'm a good fit despite missing X"
- •"Help me apply for this stretch role"
- •"Create a compelling narrative for my application"
Cover Letter Writer
Description
This skill treats the cover letter as a Strategic Risk Mitigation Document, not a summary of the CV. Its goal is to hook the reader, address the "Elephant in the Room" (risks/gaps), and prove ROI.
It transforms standard "I am applying for..." letters into Sales Pitches using the Hook-Bridge-Close framework.
Core Philosophy
- •Don't Repeat the CV: The CV is history; the Cover Letter is the future/potential.
- •Attack the Risk: If the candidate lacks a key skill or has a gap, the letter must address it head-on (The "Elephant in the Room").
- •Prove the "Why": Why this specific company? Generic flattery is rejected. Specific mission alignment is required.
Workflow
1. Analyze the Context
Before writing, identify:
- •The Elephant: What is the #1 reason they might say NO? (e.g., "Missing Elixir skill", "Job hopping", "Junior for the role").
- •The Hook: What is the #1 reason they might say YES? (e.g., "Built similar system at scale", "Deep domain expertise").
- •The Tone: Startup (Scrappy, hungry) vs Enterprise (Professional, reliable).
2. The Narrative Structure (Hook-Bridge-Close)
Part 1: The Hook (0-10 seconds)
Goal: Stop the scroll. Prove you get their problem immediately.
- •BAD: "I am writing to apply for the [Role] position listed on [Website]."
- •GOOD: "Your team is solving [Specific Problem from JD], which is exactly the challenge I solved at [Previous Company] by [Outcome]."
- •GOOD (Gap/Pivot): "I might not follow the traditional path for a [Role], but my background in [Unique Skill] gives me a unique advantage in [Specific JD Goal]."
Part 2: The Bridge (The "Elephant")
Goal: Address the risk and turn it into strength.
- •Strategy: "I know I lack [Skill X], but here is my plan/proof of potential."
- •Template: "While my background is primarily [Current Skill], I have aggressively upskilled in [Target Skill] (see attached project), allowing me to bring [Unique Perspective] to your engineering team."
Part 3: The Close (ROI & Call to Action)
Goal: Reiterate value and ask for the meeting.
- •Strategy: Connect personal mission to company mission.
- •Template: "I am eager to bring my experience in [Strength] to help [Company] achieve [Goal mentioned in JD]. I would welcome the chance to discuss how I can contribute to [Specific Team Goal] in Q1."
Output Guidelines
- •Format: PLAIN TEXT. No markdown headers (#), no bold (**), no italics (*). Ready for copy-pasting into email or text fields.
- •Spacing: Use standard double line breaks between paragraphs.
- •Header: Do not include physical addresses unless requested. Start with "Dear..."
- •Strategy Note: Start the response with a brief markdown block explaining the strategy, but keep the letter itself pure text below it.
Output Template

**Strategy Note**: [Explain the "Angle" chosen - e.g., "We emphasized your startup speed to counter the lack of enterprise experience."] --- (Copy and paste the text below) Dear [Hiring Manager Name/Team Name], [The Hook Paragraph] [The Bridge / The Meat Paragraph - use simple bullet points: "- Achievement" if needed, but avoid complex formatting] [The "Why Us" Paragraph] [The Close Paragraph] Sincerely, [Candidate Name] [LinkedIn/Portfolio Link]
