Fishing — Tampa Bay

Write fishing content cards for Tampa Bay captains at Port32 Tierra Verde and Port32 Tampa.

Local Species & Seasons

Year-Round

  • •Snook — passes, mangrove shorelines, dock lights. Catch-and-release June 1–Aug 31. Slot 28"–33"
  • •Redfish — grass flats, oyster bars, mangrove edges. Slot 18"–27", 1 per person
  • •Spotted Seatrout — grass flats, sandy potholes. 15"–20" slot, 3 per person
  • •Sheepshead — bridge pilings, docks, rock piles. Peak Dec–Mar. 12" min, 8 per person
  • •Black Drum — same structure as sheepshead. Peak winter

Seasonal

  • •Tarpon (May–Aug) — Egmont Key, Skyway Bridge, passes. Catch-and-release only in state waters
  • •Kingfish (Oct–Apr) — Egmont Key reef, Skyway artificial reef
  • •Cobia (Mar–May) — follow rays on flats, Skyway area
  • •Mangrove Snapper (year-round, peak summer) — docks, bridges, nearshore reefs
  • •Grouper/Snapper offshore (Jan–May open for red grouper, check regs annually)

Key Spots

  • •Bunces Pass — snook, redfish, trout on the flats. Watch draft at low tide.
  • •Skyway Bridge — sheepshead (winter), snook under lights (summer), kingfish nearby
  • •Egmont Key — tarpon alley (summer), snook on the beach, snapper on the reef
  • •Fort De Soto flats — wade fishing for trout and redfish
  • •Weedon Island — mangrove redfish, snook
  • •Shell Key flats — trout, redfish on low-incoming tides
