Fishing — SW Florida

Write fishing content cards for SW Florida captains at Port32 Naples, Port32 Marco Island, and Port32 Cape Coral.

Local Species & Seasons

Year-Round

  • Snook — mangrove shorelines, passes, dock lights. Catch-and-release June 1–Aug 31. Slot 28"–33"
  • Redfish — shallow grass flats, oyster bars, mangrove creeks. Slot 18"–27", 1 per person
  • Spotted Seatrout — grass flats, deeper holes, sandy areas. 15"–20" slot, 3 per person
  • Sheepshead — docks, bridge pilings, oyster bars. Peak Dec–Mar. 12" min, 8 per person
  • Mangrove Snapper — nearshore reefs, docks, bridges. 10" min, 5 per person

Seasonal

  • Tarpon (Apr–Jul) — Boca Grande Pass (world famous), Charlotte Harbor, Naples area passes. Catch-and-release in state waters
  • Kingfish (Oct–Mar) — offshore reefs, wrecks, nearshore in cool months
  • Cobia (Mar–May) — following rays on flats, nearshore reefs, passes
  • Goliath Grouper (year-round) — around structure, bridges, reefs. Catch-and-release only
  • Permit (year-round, peak spring) — flats, wrecks. Extremely challenging
  • Triple Tail (summer) — crab trap floats, channel markers

Offshore (Gulf)

  • Grouper — red grouper season varies annually, check current regulations
  • Snapper — vermillion, lane, mutton snapper on reefs and wrecks
  • Amberjack — deeper wrecks and reefs. Size and season restrictions apply
  • Mackerel — Spanish and king mackerel, seasonal migrations

Key Spots by Marina

From Naples

  • Gordon Pass — snook, tarpon, jack crevalle. Can be rough in west winds
  • Naples Bay — winter snook in canals and docks, juvenile tarpon
  • Keewaydin Island — beach and back-side flats for reds and snook
  • 10,000 Islands (north) — backcountry reds, snook, trout in creeks

From Marco Island

  • Caxambas Pass — snook, tarpon, variety of species
  • 10,000 Islands — extensive backcountry, reds and snook in mangrove creeks
  • Cape Romano — beach fishing, nearshore species
  • Everglades National Park waters — check regulations, seasonal closures

From Cape Coral

  • Caloosahatchee River — snook around docks, bridges, residential canals
  • Charlotte Harbor — expansive flats, excellent redfish and trout fishing
  • Pine Island Sound — shallow water paradise for reds, snook, trout
  • Boca Grande Pass — world-famous tarpon fishing. Peak May-July
  • Matlacha Pass — narrow waters, great snook and red fishing

Regulations & Closures

  • Snook closed June 1–August 31 (spawning season)
  • Everglades National Park — seasonal closures in backcountry, check current status
  • 10,000 Islands National Wildlife Refuge — some areas closed for bird nesting
  • Red tide — monitor conditions, can affect fishing and fish consumption
  • Goliath grouper — catch-and-release only, no harvest
  • Tarpon — catch-and-release in state waters

  • Naples location puts you minutes from Gordon Pass and 10,000 Islands
  • Marco Island is gateway to Everglades backcountry fishing
  • Cape Coral offers best access to Charlotte Harbor and Pine Island Sound
