Signature Destinations

Cape Lookout National Seashore

  • The Point — Historic lighthouse (1859), pristine beaches, excellent fishing
  • Shackleford Banks — Famous wild horses! Free-roaming population since 1500s
  • No Development — Pure barrier island experience, pack everything you need
  • Access — Boat only, protected anchorage areas marked

Rachel Carson Reserve

  • Carrot Island — Wild horses visible from Beaufort waterfront
  • Bird Watching — Major migratory bird habitat
  • Kayaking — Shallow waters perfect for exploration
  • Research Reserve — Protected area, stay on designated trails

Fort Macon State Park

  • Civil War Fort — Well-preserved 1800s fortification
