Difference: Interviews reveal the "why" behind behavior.
2. Validate Assumptions

Learning: Assumption was partially wrong (reason was different).

Asking Good Questions
1. Open-Ended ("Tell me about..." not "Do you...")
Bad (Closed-Ended):
"Do you like the new design?"
Good (Open-Ended):
"What do you think of the new design?"
Why: Open-ended questions get richer answers.
2. Avoid Leading Questions
Bad (Leading):
"Don't you think the checkout is too long?"
Good (Neutral):
"What do you think about the checkout process?"
Why: Leading questions bias the answer.
3. Ask About Past Behavior (Not Future Hypotheticals)
Bad (Hypothetical):
"Would you use dark mode if we added it?"

Why: People are bad at predicting future behavior.
4. "5 Whys" to Dig Deeper

5. Silence is Okay (Let Them Think)
Technique: After asking a question, wait 5-10 seconds

Red Flags:

1. Pitching Your Solution
Bad:
"We built this amazing feature that solves all your problems! Don't you love it?"
Good:
"We're exploring different approaches to solve [problem]. I'd love your honest feedback."
Why: You're there to learn, not to sell.
2. Asking Leading Questions
Bad:
"Don't you think the checkout is too complicated?"
Good:
"What do you think about the checkout process?"
Why: Leading questions bias the answer.
3. Ignoring Body Language/Tone
