Career & Self-Development

Goal

Turn “I want to grow” into a measurable loop: intent → practice → evidence → reflection → next step.

Trigger signals

  • “What should I learn next?”, “How do I improve?”, “I need a growth plan.”
  • Performance review prep, promotion readiness, role change, imposter feelings.
  • Building a portfolio / growth story.

Core workflow

  1. Define a growth theme (pick one): communication, leadership, focus, craft, collaboration.
  2. Set a 4-week goal with a metric:
    • Frequency metric: “Do X 2x/week”
    • Quality metric: “Reduce rework by Y”
    • Outcome metric: “Ship Z with stakeholder sign-off”
  3. Pick 2 practices (small, repeatable).
  4. Choose evidence (portfolio artifacts) and a cadence (weekly).
  5. Reflection: What worked? What didn’t? What will I change next week?

Curiosity & learning loops (micro-experiments)

Use curiosity as a practice: create small experiments that generate information fast.

Experiment loop (7 days)

  1. Pick one question: “What would happen if I…?”
  2. Define a tiny test (≤ 30 minutes) you can run 2–3 times this week.
  3. Decide what “signal” you will look for (time saved, fewer misunderstandings, better output).
  4. Capture one line of evidence after each run.
  5. End of week: keep / change / stop.

Curiosity prompts

  • “What am I assuming is true here?”
  • “What would I try if failure was cheap?”
  • “What’s the smallest test that would change my mind?”

Templates

Weekly reflection (5 lines)

  • This week I practiced …
  • Evidence: …
  • What improved: …
  • What got in the way: …
  • Next week I will …

Feedback request (low-friction)

“Can I ask you one quick feedback question? On [specific thing], what should I keep doing, and what’s one thing to improve?”

Growth story (STAR-lite)

Situation → Action → Result → Learning (one paragraph).

Output defaults

  • Provide a 4-week micro-plan (goal, practices, evidence, cadence).
  • Provide one feedback request message + one portfolio bullet draft.

Guardrails

Avoid vague advice. Always translate to a practice + evidence.
