Writing Standards

Voice

  • Active voice, direct address ("you")
  • Confident: state principles clearly
  • Concise: no filler words or phrases
  • Respectful: the trap is a common pattern, not a personal failing

Forbidden Phrases

  • "Let's dive in", "In this etude we will explore"
  • "Simply", "just", "obviously"
  • "As you know", "as you should know"
  • Unsubstantiated superlatives ("10x faster", "dramatically better" without metrics)

Code Standards

  • Starter codebases must compile and pass tests
  • Realistic project structure for the target role
  • Meaningful existing code (not starting from zero)
  • Clear seams where new code goes
  • Comments explain "why" not "what"

Interaction Log Prompts

Must be:

  • Specific: "What did the agent get wrong in its first attempt?"
  • Comparative: "How did output quality differ between Part 1 and Part 2?"
  • Metacognitive: "When did you realize the natural approach wasn't working?"
  • Forward-looking: "How would you apply this to your actual work?"

The Two-Part Mandate

Every concept must be presented in two views:

  1. The Agent Pattern: The effective collaboration approach, explained standalone. Valuable regardless of which agent the reader uses.
  2. The Habit Bridge: How existing engineering habits relate to this pattern. What instinct is being overridden and why the instinct existed in the first place.

Anti-Patterns

  • The Lecture: >40% explanation, <60% doing
  • Spoiling the Trap: Warning the learner before they experience Part 1
  • Vague Instructions: "Try using the agent to build this"
  • Tool Lock-in: Instructions that only work with one agent
  • The Perfection Trap: Implying one "correct" interaction style
